II. Operating Principle

Steel‑wire‑rope‑driven conveyor belts (also known as cable belts or pre‑grooved conveyor belts) feature specially designed rubber‑molded ear grooves on both sides of the belt, which engage with two parallel, closed‑loop steel wire ropes (cables). The drive unit pulls the steel wire ropes, and through friction or mechanical engagement, the ropes propel the belt and the material carried on it. The drive cables are supported, contained, and guided along the entire length of the conveyor by idler pulleys, which are bolted to the frame of the support structure. The variable‑speed drive can be located at either end. Depending on the application and design, these systems may be driven from the head, tail, or an intermediate drive. Since the steel cable itself does not bear the traction load, but only the weight of the conveyed material, this type of conveyor offers high carrying capacity, accommodates both personnel and goods, and is well suited for long spans and extended distances. Its advantages include minimal elongation, uniform tension, smooth operation, resistance to misalignment, low environmental requirements, and easy replacement.

III. Product Structure

The belt employs wear‑resistant rubber as both the upper and lower cover layers, along with ear grips. Its rigid core layer consists of a single layer of longitudinally and transversely woven polyester fabric, sandwiched between high‑strength rubber and highly elastic steel strips (or two layers of woven steel mesh, in which case no polyester fabric or steel strips are used internally if the carcass material is steel mesh). Ear‑grip slots are provided on both sides of the resulting belt body to facilitate wire‑rope traction; these slots may be offset from one another or arranged at equal intervals, as shown in the figure.

Ear tips can be designed with a smooth profile (as shown in the figure above) or with a serrated edge (to increase surface tension and enhance flexibility, as illustrated below).
